THE AMBERLEY TRAGEDY.
« SHEEHAN'S HISTORY. A MENTALLY AFFECTED FAMILY. [From Our Correspondent.] WELLINGTON, Mat 3. It appears that William Sheehan, who confessed to the Amberley murder, has since his boyhood been noted for a lack of mental balance. When about twelve years of age he was committed to the Nelson Industrial School, from which he ran away ; but he was re-committed to the same institution, having in the interim been arrested for housebreaking. He ran away from the institution several times, and latterly has been completely lost sight of by his relatives, who were under the impression that his brother was keeping a look-out for him. His grandfather and mother were both mentally affected. His mothor left home in a strange and unexpected manner when her son was between twelve and fourteen years of age. Instead of being dead, as her son states, she is said to be alive, and residing in Perth, Western Australia. Many of his relatives are married and occupy good positions, and feel keenly with regard to what has taken place.
