THE HOODS.
[Per Press Association.'! WELLINGTON, Mat 1. In response to a telegram from Captain Russeil asking for a month's extension of the Land and Income tax returns, to give the Hawke's Bay settlers time to amend them, the Hon J. M'Kenzie points out that the returns are up to March 21, the date of the previous floods, and that all the department can do is to accept objections and obtain a report thereon. The bulk of those affected are small holders, and their valuations will be rectified when the general valuation is made presently. The extra month asked for would bo allowed for making returns and framing objections. The following additional subscriptions have been received at the City Council Office :— A. Ward 10s 6d, T. A. £2, Kaiapoi Woollen Factory .£lO, Normal School (teachers and scholars) £9 6s O^d, G. H. Sharpe £2, Eev C. A. Tobin 13s, Rev J. Clover (proceeds of lecture at Waddington) £2, Christchurch Musical Society £\§ 11s 6d. The total amount received up to noon to-day was .£4lB 10s ljd.
