Professor Bickerton's " New Story of the Stars " concluded in this issue. A cable message from London states that Sir George Grey is dying. Old rhyme : — " Jack-in-the-Green, a soo '. y Queen, and half a dozen boys." Bishop Grimes to be entertained at a conversazione on Monday night at the Art Gallery. Seco£d instalment of " In the Name of Liberty," by Florence Marryat, on page 1 of this issue. It is believed that the Sultan is willing to agree to peace provided Greece will accept reasonable conditions. The charge of heresy brought against "lan MacLaren" has been dismissed by the Synod of the Free Presbyterian Church. The prospect of an early cessation of the war between Greece and Turkey has caused a general decline in the London wheat market. An attempt to summon the Greek Legislature to deal with the situation arising out of the war, proved futile, owing to the absence of the Government supporters. Sir Michael Hicks-Beach, Chancellor of the Exchequer, in his Budget speech in the Blouse of Commons, announced a surplus of two and a half millions. He stated that it was proposed to materially strengthen the garrison at Cape Colony, to increase postal and telegraphic facilities, and to make additional provision for education in Scotland and Ireland. He hinted that a great change in the fiscal policy of Great Britain might be necessary. An angry feeling was aroused among the people of Athens by the inaction of the Government, and the King called upon M. Delyannis, the Premier, to resign in order that he might form a new Ministry. M. Delyannis refused to resign, and the King dismissed him. M. Ealli, the leader of the Opposition, will form a coalition Ministry, whose main objects will be the reorganisation of the army and the conclusion of an honourable peace.
