At the Trades Council Conference it was decided to approve of the principles of the Fair Tender, Hawkers, Usury Prevention, and State Fire Insurance Bills, . without being- committed to details. It was decided to hold tho next conference in Wellington at Easter, councils to be asked to send in recommendations four weeks previously. A vote of sympathy with Mr A. A. Smith, Auckland, was passed. It was resolved — "That the railway authorities be approached and asked to improve the secondclass railway accommodation if possible." "That the Government be urgently requested to introduce a Bill next session making Labour Day the second Wednesday in October, a public holiday." A motion expressing regret that the Government had not sent a Minister to address ,the Conference was withdrawn after discussion. Tho Hon W. M. Bolt gave an address on co-operative settlements and was thanked. The Conference has closed. The delegates vjtive entertained at a smoke concert to-night. A meeting of the Builders' Association Trill be held in the Young Men's Christian Association's rooms at eight o'clock this evening. A meeting of those interested in the furniture trade will be held in Inglis's Buildings at eight o'clock this evening, foi the purpose of forming a trades union.
