PIGEON SHOOTING.
The Ellesmere Gun Club held its Easter Handicap yesterday in Mr Cliff's paddock, Lincoln Road. The weather was favourable, but the shooters did not seem to be in their best form, and a great number of birds escaped. Mr W. G. Garrard was handicapper and referee. The following is the result of the Easter Handicap : — First prize d£3o, second .£l2, third fourth £2 ; nine birds: — W. Anderson (Prebbleton) 21yds, 9 birds ; J. W. Cassin (Christchurch) 22yds, 8 birds; L. Beainan (Kimberley) '23yds, 8 birds; H. Bailey (Rangiora) second nomination, 27yds, 8 birds ; J. Hayes (Tai Tapu), first nomination, 28yds, 8 birds ; J. Hayes (Tai Tapu), second nomination, 28yds, 8 birds. Mr Anderson, therefore, took first prize, and Messrs Cassin, Beaman, Bailey and Hayes divided second, third and fourth moneys. J. Hickenbottom (Cust) 23yds, E. D'Auvergne (Eangiora) 23yds, "Goldspur" (Christchurch) 24yds, "Cashmore" (Greenpark) 27yds and E. D'Auvergne (Rangiora), second nomination, 23yds, all killed 7 birds. As there were no more birds available, no other matches were shot off. The following racehorses were sent north by the steamer Waihora last night. Barahot, Tiro, Daunt, St Elmo, Leda, Goldspur and Tallyho.
