' «l ' Farewell Sermon. —The Roy T. G. ' Brooke preached his farewell sermon in ; the Methodist Church, Ashburton, on Sunday, to a very Large congregation. ; Rangiora Roman Catholic Church. — , It is understood that the Rev Father Aubrey, late of Waimate, has been appointed to the charge of the Rangiora . Catholic Church. Woodend. — The return lawn tennis match between the Woodend and Amberley Lawn Tennis Clubs was played on the recreation ground, Woodend, on Saturday, and resulted in a win for tho home team . by thirteen games. Iva^afoi Presbyterian Church. —On Sunday harvest thanksgiving services were held in this church. The Rev W. J. Grow -was the preacher at both services. Tho collections were in aid of tho Indian Famine Relief Fund. The Salvation Ae?it. —Tho Salvation Army at Kaiapoi hold harvest thanksgiving meetings on Sunday. The visiting officers were Ensign and Mrs Kirk and Captains Bloomfield and Cater. The services were continued last evening. Muff Cricket Match. —A niuff costume cricket match will be played at the Rangiora Domain on Thursday afternoon. A collection will bo made at the gate, and the proceeds will bo handed to the Mayor for charitable purposes. A similar match last year realised between £Q and ,£7. Ashburton Primitive Methodist Church. —The Primitive Methodist harvest festival at Asliburton was concluded on Saturday night by a popular concert. Mrs W. Marsden, Misses B. Butler, Mary Coliison and Olphert, Messrs E. G. Craighead, ,T. Trezise and l)r Morris contributed items to the programme. Miss Ethel Gates and Mr Llewellyn Owen were the accompanists. New Brighton 7 Football Club. —The adjourned annual meeting of the New Brighton Football Club was held in the club rooms last evening. There was a numerous attendance of members. Mr C. Curtis occupied the chair. Tho annual report and balancesheet were read and adopted. The balancesheet showed that the assets of the club exreeded tho liabilities by ,£3 13s ocl and that the balance in hand amounted to .£2 6s od. Three new members were elected. A hearty vote of thanks to the Chairman closed the meeting. / Waddington.—Tho friends of Mr John Fraser entertained him at a farewell dinner at the Sheffield Hotel on Friday night. Tho dinner was an excellent one, and two hours wore spent with toast, recitation and song. Mr F. Bull, the chairman, proposed " The Queen." The other toasts were; —" Our Guest," proposed by Mr Colthart; " Agriculture." proposed by Mr Pole; "The Ladies," proposed by Mr J. Searle ; " Our Host and Hostess," proposed by Mr Bull. Songs were sung by Messrs M'Nae, Judd, Traves, Button, White, Guy and Pole, and recitations were given by Mr A. Guun and Mr G. Berry. " Auld Lang Syne " and the National Anthem brought to a close a I very enjoyable evening.
