Canterbury District Law Societi*. — ' 'Tho annual meeting of this Society was held at the Supreme Court library on Wednesday Inst. There was a fair atten.dance of members, aud Mr 11. Slater (p*e.sident of the Society) occupied the chair, in the anuunl report appreciative reference was made to tho work done by the late Dr C. J. Foster. The balance-sheet .showed the finances of tho Society to be m a sound condition, the sum of &19 19s 3d appearing to credit. The annual election of officers resulted ns follows: —President, Mr T. W. Stringer 5. vice-president, Mr H. D. Andrews; treasurer, Mr W. Izarcl; secretary, Mr J. A. Flesher; members of , Council, Messrs H. J/ Beswick, J. A. Caygill, <H. Cotterill, T. G. Russell and H.
