NEWHAVEN.
FPeE PRESo ASSOCIATION.! MELBOURNE, April 4. There being no other explanation forthcoming for his withdrawal, the Age says that Mr Cooper's idea in scratching Newhaven for the Sydney Cup was, no doubt, that he considered the horse too valuable to risk an accident in a big field, and it may be regarded as a significant indication that Mr Cooper has high hopes of Newhaven earning distinction in England. The paper adds that Mr Cooper is apparently very sensitive about the champion being beaten, and it may be that his defeat in the St Leger Stakes had something to do with his withdrawal from the Cup.
