FEDERAL ELECTIONS.
[Per Piiess Association.] SYDNEY, March 5. Polling day for the Federal elections yesterday was observed as a holiday. The elections passed off quietly throughout the colonies. The' latest' returns show that the following are the leading candidates :— Messrs Barton, Carruthers, Bl'Millan, Eeid, Lyne, E. E. O'Connor, Sir J. Abbott, Walker and Wise, the last two having replaced Messrs Coploland and See as further retu/ns came in. About 140 small returns have still to come in, but it is almost certain that Cardinal Moran has little chance of being included among the ten. | MELBOURNE, March o. The following ten will probably be elected: — The Premier, Dr Quick, Messrs Peacock, Isaacs, Deakin, Trenwith, Fraser and Higgins, Sir Graham Berry and Sir William Zeal. HOBART, March 5. The returns are incomplete, but the following are leading : — Sir Phillip Fysh; Sir E. Braddon, Messrs Henry Lewis, Dobson, Brown, Grant, Clark, Moore and Collins. ADELAIDE, March 5. The Federal elections take place tomorrow.
