IMPORTED POULTRY.

Mr W. J. Tonkin, of Timaru, brought out with him from England in the Aotea, which arrived at Port Chalmers on Sunday, a pair Indian game fowls, both prizewinners; a pair of Plymouth Eocks (unshown), the cockerel a full brother to the Palace Challenge Cup cockerel, and the pullet a daughter to the first prize Palace hen ; also, a pair of Minorcas, both prizewinners. All the birds arrived in excellent condition, thanks to the splendid accommodation provided during the voyage by Captain Scotland. Mr Tonkin also brought out specials to the value of £iO for the next Timaru poultry show. RATING ON IMPROVED VALUES. The Wairarapa North County Council is just now taking :i plebiscite of its ratepayers to ascertain whether it is desirable to hold a poll to bring rating on unimproved values into iorce in place of rating on capital values.
