SUMNER REGATTA FETE.
A public meeting was held in the Sumner Town Hall last evening, to consider whether a regatta should be held. There was a large attendance, including several ladies, and the Mayor occupied the chair. Mr Kennett spoke of the success of the previous meetings, and said it was intended to hold rowing races, land sports of all kinds, fireworks, &c, and to finish up with a ball in the evening. Mr C. Partridge was elected secretary. The Chairman stated that satisfactory arrangements had been made with the Christchurch Tramway Company, who had agreed to provide a band. A loug discussion took place as to the date on which the f vie should be held, and ultimately it was resolved to hold it ou March 11. Mr Hobbs stated that the Christchurch Sailing Club would be happy to help to make the affair a success. Mr Hyman, on behalf of the Union Eowing Club, offered the committee the use of two outriggers for the "ladies' races. A large committee was elected. A vote of thanks to tho Chairman terminated the meeting.
