BEEACHES OF THE LAW.
At the Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M., Edwin Albert Spicei was charged with having, on Nov. 14, 189G, made a false electoral declaration by signing his name to a claim for enrolment as "Edwin Spicer." Mr Stringer appeared for the Registrar of Electors. Tho defendant admitted the oil'ence. He said he had always been known as Edwin Spicer, and only on receiving a letter from the Registrar asking for his full name, did he i:nd out that his name was Edwin A.hert. Ec was fined 20s and costs. E'lward Hanson was also charged with having, on Nov. 1(5, 1896, made a false declaration, by stating on .a claim for enrolment as an elector, that he was not less than twenty-one yeai's of age. Mr Stringer appeared for the Registrar. The defendant admitted the offence. He said he was twenty-one at the beginning of January, and as the election had taken place in December he had not voted. His father hai told him that there was no harm in having his name put on the roll. He was fined 60s and costs.
