BOARD OF GOVERNORS.

A meeting of the Board of Governors of Canterbury College was held yesterday ;vlteru6on ; present —Mr H. R. Webb (chairman), Hons TV. Montgomery, E. C. J. btevens and J. T. Peacock, Messrs R. TV. Fereday, T. S. Weston, P. de C. Malot, J. Anderson, J. L. Scott, F. D. S, Neave and TV.. Chrystall. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs IS. TVestenra and J. J. Kinsey. Mr G-. Or. Stead wrote, stating that he intended paying a visit to England, and applying for leave of absence for six months. The necessary leave was granted for the remainder of term of office. The Chairman reported that the annual exhibition of the works of the students of the School of Art had been opened on Feb. 5, and the bronze medal had been awarded to Mr S. Thompson. The election of members of the Boards of Governors of the Akaroa, llangiora and Waimate High School, would take place on Ma^ch 29. Mr J. P. Grossmann wrote accepting the position of lecturer on political economy, and drawing attention to the arrangements for the lectures. The letter was referred to the College Committee. The Board's solicitor was empowered, if he thought it necessary, to engage a second coxmsel to appear at the commission for the adjustment of accounts between this Board and the Board of Governors of the Agricultural College. The Chairman reported that the Girls' High School scholarships had been finally arranged as follows : — Senior Entrance Scholarships — Annie Wright and Edith Fowke, two years ; Flora Shrimpton and Florence Metherell, one year. Junior Entrance Scholarships — Ellen Menzies and Minnie Adams, two years ; Jennie Cardwell and Muriel Day, one year. Exhibitions for pupils within the school — Euth Gibson, Annie Finlayson, Mabel Connon and Alethea Batham. Free tuition — Constance Dawe, Sarah Martin, Annie M'Getrick and Marianne Slocum. The Chairman also' reported that H. S. Cordery would continue on free tuition at the Boys' High School. Boys' High School Entrance Exhibitions were recommended to be awarded to L. M. Sandstein, E. A. Brittenden and W. Wilson, for two years ; G. Klingenstein and T. TV. Cox for one year. The Board then went into committee to consider the report of the Finance and Estates Committees.
