Mr Lionel Broad, who loft Ashbur- . ton for "West Australia on Saturday, was entertained at a banquet on Friday night, and presented with a silver matchbox filled with sovereigns. — There was- a very pleasant gathering of employes of the Cashmere Estate at the Queen's Hotel, on Saturday evening, to bid farewell to Mr William Ash, who has left the employ in order to enter into a business in the city. The chair wns occupied by Mr J. C. "Wilson, and amongst those present ' were Mr C. P. Hugouiu, manager of Cashmere, and Mr T. Beadel, for many \ years ovoraeer of the estate. The Chairman, in handing Mr Ash a purse of sovereigns, on behalf of the Wilson family and employes, spoke of the faithful manner \ in which the recipient had served the '. family and tho estate for a period of 6ver twenty-three years, and. wished him all . success in his new undertaking. —On Wednesday evening the employes of Messrs '. Ashby, Bergh and Co. met, and presented ( Mr B. C. Ashby with a handsome dressingt bag and a silver cigarette case, both suitably inscribed, on the occasion of his departure for England. Mr Eoss, on j behalf of the employes, made the presentation, and Mr Ashby fittingly acknowledged I the gift.— On Friday evening a farewell , " social " was tendered to Mr T. L. Felton, -who has been transferred to the Nelson ( district, by his fellow railway employes at Lyttelton. During the evening Mr E. M. Cole, who occupied the chair, presented Mr [ f Felton with a handsome Gladstone bag [ and a copy of Burns's poems.— At Sunmer, ' on Saturday, the members of the local J Cricket Club presented Mr J. S. Monck : with a handsome pipe and Mrs Monck J with a silver cream jug and butter dish. > The presentation was made, on behalf of [ the members, by Mr E. R. beacon, Mayor L of Sumner.
