RIFLE SHOOTING.

■»■ The annual match between the Kaiapoi Rifles and Kaiapoi Cadets took place on Saturday. Four shots wero fired by each member of the two teams at 2OOyds and 400 yds, with the Cadets' carbines, and also four shots with the Martini rifles at the same ranges. The Rifles won by 33 points. The following are the scores : — Rifles — Private Bennett '19, Private Templeton 45, Private Scott 45, Private Keetley 43, Sergeant Day 40, Corporal Borland 39, Private Hanna 37, Private Drabble 30, Private Cox 28, Private Mathews 22 ; total 378. Cadets— Colour-Sergeant Mathews 47, Lieutenant Lynskey 40, Sergeant Evans 39, Sergeant Simpson 37, Corporal Richards 35, Captain Alexander 34, Cadet Welch 32, Cadet Martin 28, Cadet Mellor 27, Cadet Green 26 ; total 345. A triangular match was fired on the Bromley range on Saturday between teams representing the E and N Batteries and the Kaiapoi Rifles. The conditions were : Ten men; 300 yds, 500 yds and GOOyds; seven shots and a sighter at each range. The weather was fine, but a changeable light and wind, together with varying ammunition, made shooting a game of chance at the long range. The E Battery had the worst of the luck, only averaging eight points per man at GOOyds.
