SYDENHAM CLUB'S SPORTS.

The members of the Sydenliam Amateur Swimming Club were favoured with, fine weather and a good attendance for their annual sports meeting on Saturday. Mr W. B. Eyre's handicapping in the Interclub Race produced close finishes in almost every heat. The winner was G. Ormandy, of the East Christchurch Club. The Water Polo Championship of New Zealand was again won by the Christchurch Club's team, who have held the championship since 1891. They defeated Bast Christchurch by two goals, and Sydenham, who had previously beaten Richmond, by four goals. Pour young ladies gave an exhibition of plain swimming, for which they were loudly applatided by the spectators. The third distance of the Schools Championship was swum, and this was secured by H. "Waucliop, of East Christchurch, who now has three wins to his credit. The fourth distance (100 yds) will be swum at the Christchurch Club's sports next Saturday. The following are details : —

WATER POLO CHAMPIONSHIP OF NEW ZEALAND ; prizes, seven gold medals presented by the Sydenham Club— First round: Sydenham (C. Kent, full-back ; A. Eussell tmd B. Hall, halfbacks; a. Grover, C. Chambers and D. Casbolt, forwards; and C. Cameron, firs b forward ) v. Richmond (J. E. Allen, full-back ; W. H. Lawrence and L. Armitage, half-backs; W. Simpson, G. D. Pascoe aud H. L. Armitago, forwards; and A. B. Truscott, flr3t forward). Richmond at first assumed the offensive, but Sydeuhnm drove them back, and maintaining their advantage, Casbolt threw two goals in quick sue cession. The second spell was also in Sydenham's favour, and from an opening gained by a free throw, Cameron scored nnother goal, the game thus ending in favour of the home team by three goals to nil. Christchurcli (C. H. Pox, full-back ; F. Paterson and G. J. C. Smart, half-backs ; W. J. Stratton, W. Halliday and J. M. Watson,forwards, and A. Brabner, first forward) v. East Christchurcli (G. Hossack, full-back ; T. Wauchop and H. Brown, half-backs ; F. Stokes, F. Newton aud T. Wafchew, forwards; and J. Wauchop, first forward). Almost, immediately after the start of the game, Watson caught the East Christchurch men napping, nnd scored a goal, and after some give-and-take play, repeated the performance. The score at the end of the spell was : Christchurch, 2 goals ; East Christchurch, nil. The second spell was very fast, and the East Christchurch team playing up remarkably well, prevented the champions from increasing their score. Final game : Christchurch v. Sydenham. In the first spell, Halliday, from long shots scored two goals for Christchurch. The Sydenham team pressed their opponents several times, bnt •were nnablo to score. In the second spell Watson and Stratton each scored a goal for Christchurch, who thus won the game by four goals to nil, and with it the championship of the colony. Mr i\ T. Evans acted as referee in all three games.
