STRUCK BY LIGHTNING.

A heavy thunderstorm burst upon the town of Westport a few days ago, and during its course a peculiar phenomenon occurred. Persons standing on the wharf observed a ball of fire burst in the vicinity of Mr Brebner's residence. The house was apparently struck by lightning. Apiece of timber was splintered and a water-pipe twisted. The electrical discharge entered the house by the chimney, blowing the fire screen away, and filling the room with soot arid smoke. A sheet of flame was also seen. Several articles in the room were displaced, and great disorder was caused, but no serious damage resulted. AN EXPLORING TOUR. A telegram from Invercargill states that Mr Gilfidder, M.H.R., has set out on an exploring tour to the West Coast Sounds.
