Frank Drayton, a young man in the employ of Mr W. M'Leod, of Waimate, was, on Monday afternoon, driving a cow tothe slaughter yard. The cow ran into a 1 section, and Drayton rode after her, when his horse fell into an unused well about twenty feet deep. Drayton managed to jump clear as the horse went down. The animal was got np with blocks and chains, but in pulling it clear of the well the tripod on which it had been lifted fell, striking one of the helpers, Joseph Williams, on the head, causing a severe scalp wound, cutting his forehead and badly injuring his shoulder. i Mr E. C. Studholme, of the Waimate Estate, received a sunstroke on Saturday ■afternoon. He is now recovering.
