THE WESTERN AUSTRALIAN GOLDFIELDS.
AN EXPERT'S REPORT. [Per Press Association.] SYDNEY, Jan. 12. Mr Mactear, a distinguished mining authority, who examined many of the Western Australian mines on behalf of English capitalists, states that he made special investigations into the reported discoveries of telluride ores, and found that they did not exist in sufficient quantity to bo of appreciable significance. He found no real lodes. The enthusiastic reports were evidently circulated for booming purposes. He does not believe that the presence of telluride has any bearing on the question of the permanency of the lode formations. He has a very high opinion of the Kalgoorlie district, and considers the auriferous belts there richer perhaps than any other goldmining area of similar extent hitherto known. He was also highly impressed with the Murchison mines, but considers the mines in the other districts patchy, and of very doubtful value.
