CHRISTCHURCH. ' Friday, Jan. 8. (Before Mr H. P. Hill, J.P. and Mr E. Jones J.P.) Petty Larceny. — Patrick Ryan was charged with having on Jan. 7, stolen sixpenny worth of beer, the property of Mary Margaret Innes. The accused pleaded guilty. Captain Bishop said if the Bencli would extend its leniency to this man, the Salvation Army would find a place for him in their home. The Bench decided to adjourn the case for a month, and said if the accused behaved himself while with tho Salvation Army nothing more would be heard of it. Alleged Theft of Money. — Gilbert M'llwraith was charged with having, on or about Jan. 5, stolen £13 from Albert Smith. On the application of Sergeantmajor Mason the accused was remanded for a week. Alleged Assault. — Richard Corkran and James Duncan were charged with having assaulted Emma Stieglick, the former on Dec. 2 i and the latter on Dec. 26. Mr Donnelly appeared for the accused. In this case, the woman who was alleged to have been assaulted, had been in the Hospital since Dec. 30 She had been summoned to attend, and had left the Hospital at ten o'clock that morning for the Court. She did not, however, appear at the Court, and on the application of Sergeant- Major Mason a warrant was issued to ensure her attendance, and the cases were adjourned till Monday. The accused were admitted to bail in one surety of .£25 each. Miscellaneous. — William Bennett and Herbert Winstone were each fined 5s and costs 9s, for riding bicycle, on the footpath- on Harewood Road on Dec. 21. — A.. G. Driscoll was fined 10s with costs Ils for travelling on the Christ-church-Lyttelton railway line on Dec. 18, with a valueless ticket, one which had been issued on Dec. 12. — Alfred Edward Bing was fined 5s and costs for leaving a vehicle unattended in the city, and not having locked one of the wheels. — Ronald M'Donald was fined 10s and costs 14s for plying for hire with a drag on a route for which it was' not licensed, and £1 and costs 14s for plying for hire with a drag which was unlicensed. — George R. Yallop, for plying for hire without being licensed as a driver, was convicted and ordered to pay the costs 7s. — • Jabez Lukey was fined 5s and costs 7s, for plying for hire with a drag on a route for which it was not licensed.
