.' The ..fortnightly meeting of the above .Cour__i£ was held last evening; present— The Mayor (Mr A.' Chalmers) and Councillors Brown, Webb, Eadcliffe, Owen, Brice and Dalley. Correspondence was read from Messrs Cook Bros, relative to the late fire on the property leased from the Council. Eef erred ' to the Sanitary Committee to report. Applications from Messrs Owen and Dwyer and Cook Bros, for a renewal of their slaughterhouse licenses were referred to -Sanitary Committee with power to act. Th© Finance Committee reported receipts sinoe- last meeting, as _E177 19s 4d, and recommended payments amounting to .£2l 6s lOd. The report was adopted. An extension of time was granted to the Colonists^ Hall Committee to report as to schedule of duties of caretaker. The report of the Foreman of Works was read. The Sanitary Committee reported having considered the matter of the Medical Officer. After careful consideration, it had come to the conclusion that there was no necessity for such an officer. The committee therefore recommended thafc three months' notice to terminatg the agreement be given to theii Medical Officer. Consideration of the report was deferred till next meeting. A report from the Special Committee having reference to the drains through the reclaimed ground was received and considered in committee. Messrs Sopp and Loader interviewed the Council relative to the granting of porters' licenses. They objected to pay license fees to both the Council and the railway: The matter was referred to the By-law and Legal Committee for consideration. The meeting then terminated.
