QUEENSLAND v. HAWKE'S BAY.

NAPIER, Jan. 2. The Queensland v. Hawke's Bay match was resumed to-day, Cowley (94) and M'Donald (90) again taking their places at the wickets. The two batsmen continued to knock the bowling about,, but with the score at 452 Cowley sent one into Staite's : hands, after having made 135 by splendid cricket. M'Donald's time came shortly after, he being caught by. Fannin.. Thispartnership was the most costly ever seen. on the ground, producing no fowei*' than 238 runs, of which M'Donald's share was 114, The remaining batsmen took the score to 492.

.With 319 , behind 911 the first innings,. ! Hawke's Bay went to the -wickets for the second time. Lusk and Bennett were soon parted, Kndso were Gore, Martin, and Cato, five wickets being down for 65. Staite and Marshall getting together gave the local men confidence, and the board showed 135 when Staite was smartly stumped by Hitchcock. Marshall took the score to 162, when he fell a victim to a tempting one from M'Donald. The tail of the team played excellently, especially when the last two men, Fannin and Wilson, were together, not being dismissed till the board showed '217, the Queonslanders thus winning by an innings and 102 runs.
