AUCKLAND RACING CLUB.

Third Day. .AUCKLAND, Jan. 2. The third day's racing of the Auckland Bacing Club's Summer Meeting was held at Ellerslie to-day. The weather was as beautifully fine as on the previous days, and consequently there was a large attendance, numbering over 12,000. The racing was interesting, and the sum of .£13,892 was passed through fhe totalis/itor, bringing the total for" the three days to .£42,550, which, is a record for Auckland. At the conclusion of the Eoyal Stakes, won by. Gold Medallist, Mr Stead invited a large number of people, including the stewards of the club, to the main room in the grand stand. In a pleasant speech Mr Alfred Kidd proposed the health of Mr Stead, and expressed a hope that his colours would for many years be seen at Ellerslie, which expression was received with hearty cheering. This pair were still together, with Webley handy, as they entered the cutting, and so they raced through the home turn into the straight. Defiant and St "Evelyn were first away, and the pair ran together to the cutting. There Miss Anna closed up, but at the top turn Defiant and Picklock were together, and the former was first into the straight, and going on won/ by three lengths from Canopus, with Picklock and Miss Anna a dead heat for third position. Mantle and Panoply got slightly the best of a capital start, and were together as they swept past the stand, with the others close up. Eunning through the plantation, Admiral Hawke assumed command, but succumbed, to Mantle, Pegasus and Folly when the cutting was reached. Passing through the cutting, Folly and Mantle were together, with Fabulist a length away, but half-way round the top turn Fubulist drew up to Mantle and Folly fell away. Once in the straight, Mars came with a run on the rails, and a capital race resulted in a victory for Fabulist by a length from Mars, with Mantle two lengths away third. Time — 2min llsec. Levanter was the first to show in. front, followed by Kingawood and Mollyhawk, but the last-named took command at the second fence, only to give way to Clarence 11. Levanter was again in front as they reached the post and rails at the top of the hill, and they ran down the hill almost on terms. Then Kingswood supplanted Levanter, and the pair ran round the top turn, with Mollyhawk and Bombardier following in the order named. No change took place until they ascended the hill, where Kingswood was in command, and St ftimon . closed up. St Simon and Kingswood came down the hill together, but at the top turn Mozel was with- them, and so they raced up the hill for the last time. Mozel was in front at the post and rails, with St Simon next, and this order was continued until they had negotiated the stone wall. Here Levanter commenced to move up, and catching the leader in the last few strides, won by half a length from Kingswood, with St Simon third. Bombardier fell in the second round. Time— Bmin 51sec.
