THE BAND CONTEST. TPer Press Association, i WELLINGTON, Jan. 2. At the exhibition this afternoon the quick marching contest by bands took place in the presence of three thousand people. The points for music and drill respectively were : — Wellington Garrison 23, 577, total 600. .. 1 Canterbury Engineers 22, 567— 589 ... '2 Stanmore (Christchurch) 21, 549—570 3 Woodville 18, 546-564 ... ... ... 4 Nelson 20, 526— 546 5 In the Exhibition, at 10.20 last night, the awards were announced in the band contest., The following are the poijits for own selection and test selection Respectively : — Wellington Garrison Band 76, 74, total 150, ■ 1 Canterbury Engineers 72, 68— 140 ... 2 Stauniore (Christchurch) 70, 67 — 137 ... 3 Nelson Garrison 66, 66—132 4 Woodville 67, 64—131 5 Marton Royals 67, 62— 129 6 Napier Garrison 62, 64— 126 7 Jan. 3. At the Exhibition last night the band contest was concluded. The following awards were announced in connection with the solo contests:— E flat horns—Nicholson (Wellington) 1, Cook (Stanmore) 2. B flat cornet— Deny (Stanmore) 1, Traversi (Greymouth) 2, Buckley (Dunedin) 3. E flat cornet— S. Cimino, jun., (Wellington), 1, Gunner (Christchurch) 2. E flat basses — Ablett (Christchurch) 1, Dixon (Wellington) 2. B flat bassesSmith (Wellington) 1, Baker (Wellington) 2. Trombones— Moore (Staumore) 1, Cummings (Wellington) 2. Euphoniums — Boyd (Dunedin) 1, Forrest (Stanmore) 2. Baritones— Flint (Dunedin) 1, Henricks (Wellington) 2.
