MASONIC.
On Thursday evening, fcfc Uaiapoi, theinstalation. of Worshipful Master Bro D. Midford Marshall, of the Southern Cross Lodge, and investiture of the officers of the Lodge for the year were carried out with much ceremony. The installing Master was K.W. Bro J. J. M. Hamilton, J.G-.W., assisted by the Grand Lodge officers. There was a large attendance, the Ashley, Lyttelton, Papanui and Christchurch Lodges being represented. The officers invested were :— I.P.M., Bro J. G. M'Lachlan ; S.W., Bro H. Barden ; J. W., Bro W. Doubleday; treasurer, Bro J. G. M'Lachlan ; secretary, Bro W. Anderson ; S.D., Bro W. Moore; J.D., Bro Thomas Lush; D.C., BroJA. H. Hunt; 1.G., Bro G. A. Moon; Tyler, Bro John Bailey. Bro S. Smith, of Eangiora, presided at the organ, and a number of odes and hymns were sung. Impressive addresses were delivered by the installing Masters, Bros Francis and Gifkins. The presentation of a handsome jewel was made to P.M. Bro J. H. Morley, in recognition of his services as treasurer, the presentation being made by I.P.M. Bro M'Lachlan in a suitable address. After the Lodge had been closed a banquet was given, which reflected credit on the catering of Bro L. J. Cox. A number of Masonic toasts and songs followed, the company separating at midnight.
