MR J. BOLLARD.
Mr John Bollard, the elect of Eden, is a well - known resident of Avondale, where ho has been for over twenty-seven years consecutively chairman of the Eoad Board. He has also been chairman of the Public School Committee for twenty-five years. Mr Bollard was born in County Wicklow, in the year 1833, his father being a large farmer. He was brought up on the farm, and also received training at the Royal Albert School of Agriculture, Ireland. Having a desire to travel, he came to New Zealand in 1860. Leaving this colony he went to Australia to the goldfields, but meeting little success returned to New Zealand. He superintended a large shipment of horses for the Armstrong field artillery during the Maori war. After serving for some time in the Auckland militia he settled on a farm at Avondale, where he has resided ever since. Mr Bollard is closely identified with the agricultural interest, and has been a useful member of the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, of which body he was for some years chairman.
