MR J. HUTCHESON.
Mr ■John Hutdkcson, Labour and Liberal representative for Wellington, was born in Dumbarton, Scotland, ' in 1855, «3nd was educated at, tlie Dumbarton Borough Academy, taking, -whilst there, a South Jtensington science and art «dholarship. By this he qualified himself for-a cadetshij) in naval architecture in 'the shipbuilding yards of the T^bll-known fii'tn of Denny Bros. After -serving 1 a year or two there he went to >sea as an -apprentice iv the firm of John and Alexander Allan, of Glasgow. : For some, years 'he led the usual precarious and unsettled life of a sailor, and during his travels visited many parts of the world. He spent considerable time in the United States. He saweome stirring scenes inXDuba. Mr Hutcheson arrived in the colony in the latter end of 1880 as second mate of a 'vessel. After spending aboutfour years on the sea he took employment with the firm ■of Messrs E. W. Mills and Go. as rigger; and two years ago started in business on his own account. He is a typical labour representative, a man who has been a Avorkman allhis life, and knows intimately the claims of labour. He has nothing of the agitator about him, and will; make a capital member.
