COMESPONDENCE.

CHRISTCHURCH ELECTION. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Is it true, as rumoured, that the election expenses oi; Mr R. M. Taylor are being paid or partly paid by the Conservatives in order to split the votes of the Liberal party. Such a trick would be quite in accordance with the tactics of the ConI servative party.— l am, &c, l AN ELECTOR. MR L. M. ISITT. j TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Mr Isitt is reported to havo said at the meeting in the Square on Tuesday night : — " He had lived here for years, and no man had ever been able to point the finger of scorn at him." As a colonist since . 1861, and an elector of New Zealand, I point the finger of scorn at him as a preacher (?) of the Gospel on the following grounds : — 1. He has vilified Liberals that are not Prohibitionists by calling them " bastard . Liberals." 2. He has said of an ex-Premier that it was a disgrace to the colony to have an atheist and infidel in that position. 3. In England some knock-kneed, swivel-eyed parsons had taken up shares in the great breweries because they paid a good percentage. (Vide Post, June 25.) 4. He counselled the electors to support no man who would not stand up for prohibition, whether Liberals or Conservatives — and he had not much confidence in either, though a Liberal himself — Prohibitionists should vote for men of principle. * * * They should put their temperance principles in the foreground and fight for them. * * * (Fide Post, June 2s.) 5. He maligned thelate John Ballance on his deathbed, when Premier, by saying he was -under the thumb of the liquor ring. 6. Which is he spreading amongst the people as a preacher of the Gospel, hatred and malice or love and mercy ? Is he bringing the people together as one family or separating the people in two bitter factions against each other ? — I am, &c, A WORKING CALLANT.
