NEW ZEALAND AMATEUR ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of delegates to the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held at the City Hotel last evening, when there were present — Messrs J. F. Grierson, South Canterbury, in the chair ; C. Hood Williams, Ashburton ; J. D. Lawrence and W. G. Garrard, West Coast; J. C. Cusaek and D. Wood, Canterbury ; J. B. Laurenson, Nelson ; C. F. Smith and F. S. Harley, Taranaki ; J. H. Wood and G. B. Ritchie, Auckland; T. Kerr, Dunedin; J. H. Hempton and L. W-. Harley, honorary secretary, Wellington; H. Frost, Te Awamutu ; J. S. Hawkes, Wanganui ; W, C. H. Wigley, South Canterbury; T. Skelton, Gisborne; and Dr Thomas, Thames. Apologies were received from Messrs L. Matson, Wanganui ; W. Tonks, Auckland ; P. Selig, Hawke's Bay ; and C. E. Clark, Wellington. A letter was read from Mr W. B. Martin, Dunedin, enclosing a clipping from the Field relative to the rules for hammer throwing. The hammer head, it was stated, should be of iron or lead, or both, and the handle of wood or iron. It was decided to ado;>t the English rule as reported in the Fieri, and to put it in force at the next ehaiiM-ionship meeting. A letter was read fr^m Mr J. W. Doyle, Victoria, enclosing entry forms for championship meeting, and asking if any New Zealand competitors intended to take part. The record of A. H. Holder, 440 yds hurdles, in 60sec, on May 9 last, was passed. A letter was read from the Auckland Amateur Athletic Club, s- 1 -*"^ that the date of the championship mooting should be fixed, -and suggesting Feb. 10 and 13. An application was also made for permission to hold handicap events and bicycle races, so as to make up a programme that would extend over the two days. The dates were approved, and permission was given to hold handicap events provided they were approved by a committee appointed by the Association. A sum of .£SO was voted to the Auckland Club to entertain visitors, and the arrangements for the championship meeting were left in the hands of the Club. A number of permits to hold amateur events which had been granted by the Permit Committee were approved. A letter was read from the honorary Secretary of the New Zealand Amateur Eowing Association, stating that at the annual meeting it had been decided to take no action in regard to the proposal to join in the reciprocal agreement in force between the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, the Cyclists' Alliance, and the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association with reference to reinstatements and disqualifications. Correspondence was read in reference to the disqualification of an amateur, and it was decided to ask him to attend the next meeting of the Association in support of his case. The following reinstatements were mado: — Messrs H. H. Ford, Charles Ward and H. M. Good (whose time had expired), and Arnold George and F. W. Webster, all of the Taranaki Amateur Athletic Club. Licensed Victuallers' Association. — A well-attended meeting of the committee was held at the Secretary's office, Chancery Lane, yesterday, when a considerable amount of business in connection with the local option poll was dealt with. A meeting will be held to-morrow afternoon at Hobbs's Buildings for the purpose of making final arrangement. Sheep for South America. — By the s.s. Tongariro, which sailed from Lyttelton yesterday, a large shipment of long-woolled rams was forwarded to Monte Video. Mr G. H. Scales, Wellington, shipped on account of Mr E. J. Eiddiford, Hutt, 120 Romney Marsh ram hoggets, in the wool; and the New Zealand arid Australian Land Company, from their Moeraki Estate, shipped fifteen two-tooth Lincoln rams, early shorn. The latter were very fine sheep, and were sold in England by Mr P. Patullo, general manager of the company, to an Argentine pastoralist.
