FIRES.
[Per Press Association. I NAPIER, Dec. 2. Mr T. Tanner's fine country residence of twenty-two rooms, at Riverslea, . near Hastings, was totally destroyed by tire at an early hour this morning. The fire broke out in the centre of the building, on the ground floor, and when discovered had obtained a great hold. The flames spread with[ astonishing rapidity, and the occupants had the greatest difficulty in escaping from the burning building. Mr Tanner lost all his private papers, and every stick of furniture was destroyed. Insurances — Norwich Union .£3300 on the building and .£I7OO on the furniture ; reinsurances — New Zealand .£IOOO, National .£9OO, Standard .£6OO and North German .£SOO. Nothing is known as to the origin of the fire. DUNEDIN, Dec. 2. At Arrowtown, Robert Pritchard's store, Campbell's butchery and M'Kenzie's fancy goods shops were burnt down yesterday afternoon." Insurances — Pritshard, stock, National, .£IOOO, and building .£800; Campbell, Manchester, .£200; M'Kenzie, vninsured.
