With the exception of "Tommy" and "Text-book," all took the "usnal statutory rest on Sunday. Tho Koldwarter trainers have a strange fancy for doing Sunday training and working their charges till late at night, the object being, presumably, to prevent their known high spirits from becoming obtrusive. Scientist is still striding along in his well-known style, and his gallops have inspired backers with the utmost confidence. The Koldwarter management somewhat churlishly refused his trainers the use of the Sydenham track, but his great performance in the open won him heaps of friends. The Skipper is also well forward, and improving daily. A smart brush every daj was followed last night by a gallop home over the last mile with Scientist in tho open air. His pipes were clear, and he pulled up perfectly sound. His condition is a credit to the State stable, and he is bound to run well to the fore in an company. Gwyllyin is also improving by leaps and bounds, and many of those who held off him at first are now among his heartiest supporters. He has proved his ability to go, and having been in strong exercise all his life there can be no doubt about his staying powers. Halswell Charlie is m first-class fettle, and seems to be enbirely free from worry of any sort. He has receded strongly in the betting this week, more through the notoriously injudicious management of the Nash Null trainers, than through any fault of his own. . His Worship and Jeshurun have been lumbering along in their well-known Clydesdale style. Even tho Nash Null supporters despair of getting any pace out of them, though Jeshurun could stay for ever at his own pace, which is about as fast as a slow man could kick the traditional hat. Neither of these two can gallop quick enough to keep himself warm. Tommy and Text Book, who have been training together, are in great heart, and their backers are very confident. Before the public, however, can follow these horses with any degree of confidence, they want more information about the running off the course at Burnham, the hitch in the .£75 stakes and other matters. No one doubts their ability to go. The question is, "Is the management of the Koldwarter establishment straight and to be relied on?" "L" is supposed to be even more thoroughly in the hands of the Koldwarter trainers than his stable mates, and is getting next to no backing outside the stable connection. Rurnpty and Gamebird must be put out of the question. No one is seriously behind them, and they can only be considered as out for exercise. The latest quotations are : — Scientist, 2 to 1 on. The Skipper, even money. Gwyllym, 2 to 1 against. Halswell Charlie, 2 to 1 against. Tommy and Text Book, 5 to 1 against. " L," 20 to 1 against. His Worship and Jeshurun, 75 to 1 against. liunipty aud Gamebird, 1000 to 1 against.
