CANTERBURY ENGINEERS.

The Canterbury Engineers, under the* command of Lieutenant Bridgeman, went into camp at New Brighton on Saturdayafternoon for a week's training under the direction of Captain Falconer, the Government instructor in submarine mining. Ten bell-tents and a marquee for a mess tent have been pitched in a paddock near the tramway bridge, and the men are to be m camp every night this week. They will go to their ordinary avocations in the daytime, and return to the camp in the evening. Reveille is to be sounded each day at 4.30 a.m., so as to allow time for work before the men leave for town. The • parade will be at 4.45 a.m,, and breakfast at 6.30 a.m. The men will leave for town by the 7.10 a.m. train. In addition to work, in the open Captain Falconer will hold an instruction clasß every evoning. "Lights out " will be sounded at 10.30 p.m. Yesterday there were forty-three men in camp. The morning was spent in putting the tents and their surroundings in order, and in the afternoon, when a number of ladies and other 3 visited the camp, it was in a creditable state of tidiness. The,men had breakfast at eight, dinner at twelve, and tea at half -past five. The mealß wereprepared at the camp kitchen, in charge of the veteran cook who. has acted for thecompany at several encampments. The work to be done will be wholly performed on the camping ground, and will consistprincipally of practice in making entrenchments of various kinds. Next Sunday the-. Engineers' Band; will visit the camp, and at 3 p.m. there will he a .church parade, at ; . which the Rev W. S. Bean, chaplain to the/ corps, will officiate.
