At one meeting of creditors the Assignee and the lawyers became engaged in an animated contest as to whether the chopping off of., a cock's head was the only oath that was binding on the conscience of a naturalised Chinaman, and in the meantime a squabbling in a corner of the room revealed the fact that a "couple of fowls were tied up. there in a kit ready for slaughter. _Lventually the meeting was adjourned, the Assignee undertaking to unravel the mysteries of Chinese oaths m the interval.
