Unskilled labour : A few applications for employment during the month. Seven men were sent to Government work and five to private employment during October. Employment getting more plentiful. Ashburton — Building trades fair. Engineering trade dull. Boot trade fair. Clothing trade brisk. Eetail trade very good. Unskilled labour : No applications for work, and no men known to be idle in the district. 'Timarn— Building trades very busy ■ many new buildings in course of erection. Engineering trade busy. Boot trade very busy ; employes working full time. Clothing trade very busy. Eetail trade fair. Unskilled labour : During the month five married and three single men were sent to the Midland Eailway at Jackson's. Work generally has beeu very plentiful all round the district. Waimate — Building trades brisk ; several new buildings being erected. Retail trade fairly busy. Unskilled labour: Six married men sent to Government work at Midland Railway works at Jackson's during the month. There is a decided improvement in the condition of labour in this district.
