WORK OF THE SALVATION ARMY.
At a recent "rescue" meeting of the Salvation. Army in Wellington, it was stated that, in the colony, during the past twelve monihs, 381 .girls aud women had been taken in hand from the streets and at the gaol gates. Out of this number 220 had beon put to situations with the Army's recommendation, independent of the number of those who have been restored to thoir own and other homes. The Army has provided 3.*>,103 beds during the year, together with meals for 100,721). Counting the cost of these beds at 3d per head, the total coot amounted to .£4BB 15s 9d. Taking the meals also at. 3d per head, it had cost' the. Army. .£l2ss. 2s 3d,, thus making the total cost of beds and meals .61697 18s.-7 ■
