At a meeting of the vestry of St Bartholomew's Church, Kaiapoi, on Thursday evening, it was decided to call for tenders for re-roofing and repairing the Clnrkevi He church. It was also" decided that, the Kaiapoi church Sunday school should be painted. D-SOttAeEFUJ. Assault. — The Eev W. Gillies, of Timaru, addressed a public, meeting in the Seadown sehoolhouse on Thursday evening. There was a large attendance aud the proceedings were at times lively, the reverend speaker meeting with a good deal of chaffing opposition. As he drove out -of the gate on to the main road on his way home he was pelted with stones, and when turning at the gate the biiggy lamp flashed upon a couple of fellows skulking under the fence, crouching as if to 'throw again. Mr Gillies pulled up, crying "Stones, yon cowards," aud was about to get out of the buggy when a stone struck his horse and made it bolt, and another stone struck his companion on- the shoulder. The matter ha* been referred to the police.
