As he drove out -of the gate on to the main road on his way home he was pelted with stones, and when turning at the gate the biiggy lamp flashed upon a couple of fellows skulking under the fence, crouching as if to 'throw again. Mr Gillies pulled up, crying "Stones, yon cowards," aud was about to get out of the buggy when a stone struck his horse and made it bolt, and another stone struck his companion on- the shoulder. The matter ha* been referred to the police.
