— ■ — <_. The ministerial session of the Canterbury Methodist Synod was resumed yesterday at 9 a.m., the President of the district in the chair. The President laid before the Synod a letter from the Eev F. W. Isitt, prof erring a request to be made a supernumerary for one year, on account of ill-health. On the motion of the Eev D. M'Nicoll, it was resolved — "Tha-t the Synod hears with regret that the state of Mr Isittf-S health precludes the hope that he will be able to resume ministerial work for some time, and it recommends the Conference to place Mr Isitt on the*supernumorary list for one year." It was also resolved to recommend Conference to grant the Eev L. M. Isitt release from circuit work for another year. The Eev L. M. Isitt took his seat in the | Synod. The President, on behalf of the j members, extended a hearty welcome to Mr | Isitt, and assured him of the esteem and confidence of the brethren, and their hearty sympathy with him in his work. ■ Mr Isitt madea brief and suitable .reply. Tlie rcmainingportion.of the moxningwas taken upwith the-'probationers' oral examinations, reportsof-sermonsandsfcudies. On the motion-of tbe'Eev D. M'Nicoll, seconded by tho Eev. J. A. Luxford, the Eov W. J. Elliott 1 was recommended for ordination to the full work of the ministry -at the next conference. TheEevs H. Begg_,CJ?orter, A. . Ashcroft, H. Williams and J. -Hosking were .recommended to pass in their respective years of probation. Mr Watson, a candi-i -date for the ministry, was examined by tho President, and it-was decided to recommend Conference to receive him for theological training at tho Prince Albert College, Auckland. The principal business of the evening meeting was theconsidcration of the condition of thochurches and the methods to be adopted for carrying on a more vigorous aggressive work throughout the .district. On the motion of the Eev J. Dukes it was resolved — " That the Synod recognises the difficulty, on account of the measure, of Methodist union effected, of comparing the position of the Church this year with that of the previous year, but has -evidence sufficient to prove that real progress has been made. The Synod records its deep thankfulness to God for the consummation of union of three branches of the Methodist family, whereby many -advantages have already been realised, and one united Church rendered more effective for good.
