LOCAL AND GENERAL.
Charitable Aid Board. — The statutory annual meeting of the Charitable Aid Board will be held at 10.45 a.m. on Wednesday next. i Mayoral Installations. — The installation of Mayors for the ensuing year will take place on the third Wednesday in December, i.e., Dec. 16. Fellowship Guild.— Attention is called in an advertisement to the fortnightly "social" of the above society, to beheld to-night in the Social Hall. .; Tai Tapu. — The annual school picnic "was held on Thursday, when about 250 children, parents and friends went to Sumner. The arrangements made by the committee gave general satisfaction. Concert at Lyttelton. — Last night a concert in connection with tbe anniversary of the local Wesleyan Church was held in the Oddfellows' Hall. There was a good attendance, and an excell&it programme of vocal and instrumental music was sub- , mitted. i Orange Society. — The WickUffe Lodge No. 36, held its monthly meeting on Thursday evening, 'W.M. Bro Telford presiding. The Secretary reported relative to the demonstration. One member was initiated. The Grand Lodge business sheet was dealt witb, and tbe W.M., Bro Telford, and the secretary, Bro Quick, were appointed delegates. Portrait Painting. — In an advertisev ment in this issue, Mr Cecil Holmes, a New South Wales artist, announces that he is staying temporarily in Christchurch, and is prepared to paint poi*traits in oil colours, either from photographs or from sittings. We have se.en some specimens of Mr Holmes's work, which show exceedingly tasteful manipulation. Sunday Services. —At the Trinity Congregational Church the Eev Sidney J. Baker will conduct both the morning and evening service. Dr Zillman will lecture in tbe Social Hall, Madras Street, tomorrow morning on " Pharisees and Publicans," in the evening on " What is Man ?" being the third of a special series. Services in connection with the Sydenham Gospel Mission will bo held at 11 ajn. and ; 6.30 p.m. At tho tower High Streot Church the Eev W. Tinsley will conduct the services. Eangiora School Committee. — The monthly meeting of the above was held on Friday evening, Mr H. Boyd in the chair. The master's report was satisfactory except in respect to the attendance, the average being rather lower than usual. It was decided that the Christmas vacation should commence on Dec 24, and that certificates of merit be awarded to the scholars on the same basis as last? year. The question of holding the annual treat was deferred to the next meeting.. _l£essrs.E. Pastor Meyer presided. The balancesheet, which showed a satisfactory financial position, was presented and adopted. The following were elected chiu*chwardens for the ensuing year : — Messrs C. Harling, C. L-u_ge, P. Kav-, J. A. Tobeck. G. A. Linderrmtnn, Philip Arnst and H. Fehsenfeld. Mr P. Kippenberger was re-elected honorary treasurer, and Mr 0. Harling honorary secretary. Votes of thanks were passed to Miss Gown for having supplied flowers for the altar during the past year, and to Mr and Mra Bunz for having provided tho music at tho services for six months. Pastor Meyer. Mrs Crosby and Messrs P. Arnst, C. Harling and J. Tobeck were elected a Benevolent Committee. A photograph of the church, to be issued vith a list of the dates of the services, was taken by Mr Wheeler. ' Sunday Lecture.- — " Pcaco with Honour" is the subject of the lecture to be given by Mr W. W. Collins in tho Lyceum tomorrow. Oddfellowshif. — A summoned meeting of the Loyal City of Christchm*ch Lodge will bo held on Monday evening for the purpose of electing medical officers and transacting other business.
