t ~ . . SEE WHAT THE NEWSPAPEBS SAY , ABOUT GAWNE'S TTORCESTERSHIRE SAUCE. "SOUTHLAND TIMES," June 7, 1889, says:— « CiOME people insist strongly at times upon everybody else patronising local industries, whether j^ tiie commodity in view he dearer tnan tne imported article or not. It Ib a patriotio duty, &c, Ac. But it may' be doubted whether such advisers always follow their own counsel when a shilling may be saved by suppressing their principles. Happily there are many instances in which it is perfectly safe to give such advice, even on the score of economy. A case in point occurs to us. MrGawne, of Dnnepin, has for some time past been manufacturing an excellent sauce intended to supply the place of th famous ' Worcester ' of Lea and Perrins. Mr Gawne's product goes under the same name, and is got Up in precisely the same style, and in every respect it is so like the original that it may be doubted whether the most delicate palate and the- most experienced eye could detect a difference. The Sauce has now been introduced to this market, and as it is only about half the price of the English make, it should undoubtedly command a largo sale." CORPULENT PEOFLEj PHYTOLACCA TAHLkTS AND JUICE. ' A BABE BE&2DY IN THE TREATMENT OP OBESITY OJI CORPULENCY. NOT A PATENT MEDICINE. Prom time immcaoria! it h^s bepn aotieedtbat birds feeding on tho Phytolacco Berries b-^cauio vor; loan, yet^retsined their health perfectly. • ' '■ ■ ,-' ' The earliest mention ia Medical Works we can find of the remedy ia in Hale's " New lvMuedies," p. 561 : — " I once suggested tho Phytolacca a3 a waned? in fatty degeneration of the heart end fatty heart (birds which feed on the berries lose afl their adipose tißtue}." To Dr W. M. Griffith.a regular practitioner in Penasylvania, belongs tho honour of having introduces the remedy in practice. In 1859 he published on article on the subject ia the " Medical Summary," oi| ; Philadelphia, aadoxpreesas enrprise that the Phytolacca Ecrrv Tr. u.twsnt of so distressing a condition) . continues to be neglected. Prom this paper wo cy-rract tho following :— I "The doee is one to two tablets befoi<3 cnc« 'meal, sometimes increased to four. They diminish the) . appetite to some extent. In some cases the reduction of weight is remarkable, as much as 15 to impounds] i a month. The reduction is frequently p.pparcnt tho first week : a iscling of lightness nnd comfort f ollovja their administration. Ono patient lost 40 pounds in three mouths, aud suffored no inconvenience; thai ! average is from 10 to 15 poundo a month. • • • lam somewhat surprised that this treatment has not rsoeivod the attention rt merits. Phytolacca seems analogous to lodide of Potash, and acts in chronic ■rheumatism shniln.rly. I have found it efficacious in that painful form of rheumatism of the arms ar.d ißhoulders, of which so aany complain. It does not constipate the bbwels, but rather acts as an aperient ;It seems to have the power of causing sbaorption of adipose tissue in a threat degree." PHYTOLACCA. BEERY TABLETS AND JUlCbl have passed through their experimental Btage. •Bead what 2>r Wise has to say about this remedy :— "My eiperieaco is that about 75 per cent of corpulent people who take it redtiee their weight. All leorpulent people aro more or less in danger «f apoplexy and hesrt failnre, &c, ao -well as from rheumatism, are clumsy and heavy about the joints and limbs. Now, Phytolacca will every time rednce tho •fatty degeneration about the heait,'thereby fscilitating a free circulation, '• It has tho power of dissolving the fat, and thereby the patient will feel light and active. Ztwill often cure rheunlatism that hatt resisted treatment ior years, particularly the kiod that.affects the shoulders and arms. Personally,, I ican report reductions ot flesh that would aeem almost incredible. Var instance, I knew <~, ta&n who weighed 8501 b reduced to 18Qlb in throe montha. 1 also know of a number of ladles who bavo roducsd tteirwaMt measure 9 to 12 inches." > 'PHYTOLACCA IS AN ABSOLUTELY SAFE REMEDY Ilbteiatß TaWete,priee2aCdabox. the Pure Joioe, 2s 6i and 4a 6 »Bo#>v X?St2» SOLD BY ALL CHEMISTS IN ( NEW ZEALAND.
