The House Committee's report was as follows :— (1) The resolution, of a previous meeting regarding teaching sick cookery to probationers as a part of their ordinary training, was referred to the House Surgeon, who was also requested to give particulars of classes held by himself and the Matron for the instruction of nurses. His letter is now laid on the table. The Matron has also requested further time to consider the first question. No recommendation has yet been received as to the appointment in place of Sister M'Robbie. SincelastmeetingNurseCollinshas resigned with a view of opening a private nursing establishment. (2) A recommendation has been received from the honorary staff as to establishing a new department for diseases of the ear, throat and nose. This recommendation has been approved by yoiir committee, and is now laid on the table. Should it be adopted, it will be necessary for the incoming Board to notify its intsntion when calling applications for the honorary staff. (3) A letter has been received from the Akaroa County Council on the subject of deaths occurring in the Hospital, the result of accidents, now laid on the table. A letter bearing on the matter has been already forwarded to the Council. (4) Inconsequence of delay in procuring steel girders from England required for the new wards, the work has been practically stopped for the present, and with a view of avoiding expense, the Chairman arranged with the architect to stop the same, and dispense with the services of the clerk of works. It is, however, expected that work will be resumed in the course of two or three weeks, the girders having been ordered directly the contract was signed. No blame can be attached to the contractor for the delay. (5) The committee expresses its deep regret at the lamented death of the late Dr Prins, who, for so many years, has been intimately associated with the hospital, and up to the last was a member of the honorary consulting staff — the Board will extend its sympathy to the bereaved family. (6) The annual (statutory) meeting of the Board will be held on Wednesday next, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m. The clauses were considered seriatim, and the report as a whole was adopted. On the motion of Dr Stewart, seconded by Dr Hunt, it was decided to send a letter of condolence to the family of the late Dr Prins. [Left sitting.]
