THE ASHLEY ELECTORATE.
TO THE EDITOE,
Sir, — Is it possible that Mr Recce for one moment expects to win his election for this district ? If so, there is no doubt he is a very sanguine young man. It shows what power the National Association has in this -pAvt of the electorate when the candidate had to get two electors of the Kaiapoi district to preside at his meetings atEast and West Oxford. Atthelatter place the Chairman explained that he was a staunch supporter of the present Government, but he was also an Englishman, and hence believed in a fair fight, and for that reason ho consented to preside on that occasion. As far as this end of the district is concerned Mr Recce can remain at home. L'here is no desire for a change, and if there were the National Association would have no say in the matter. The poor old creature is moribund, and his hide will be well tanned and his carcase buried and forgotten directly the election is over. — T am, &c, OXFORD.
