MR CULLEN AND PROHIBITION.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—ln spite of my recent letter declaring against the Prohibition Party and its tactics; in spite of the fact that for over three years no writer has more bitterly (perhaps too bitterly) opposed the leaders of that party; in spite of the f.act that a little over a week ago I penned this sentence, published publicly—" that curse to our politics and progress—the Prohibition Party;" that on Feb. 11 I wrote "the real object—the r»lot—of the prohibition leaders is to break up the present Liberal party "—in spite of my action at the Invercargill Conference, and on various other occasions; an iniquitously untrue rumour is being persistently circulated with the object of hurting my candidature, that I am a prohibitionist. I again give this a most empHatic denial. I never have been, nor am I now, a prohibitionist, and I have good ground for believing that it is to their leaders that I am indebted for the circulation of the statement.—l, am &c, WILLIAM CULLEN.
