FPer Press Association.! NAPIER, Oct. 19. Samuel Cousens, who attempted to escape from the prison gang, received an additional sentence of three months to the term of twelve months he is now serving. WELLINGTON, Oct. 19. ■ Captain Sowden, who for some time was chief officer of tho Gothics, and latterly had charge of tho Doric, came out by the Gothic this trip, virtually as an extra officer. He returns by her to take command of the company's new steamer. Mr Inman, for many years purser of the Doric, is now in a similar position on tho Gothic. In addition to the d3ath of W. A. Tiddy, a passenger by the Gothic to Wellington, a steerage passenger named NanshaAV, bound to the Cape, also died on tho voyage, the cause being heart disease. The Gothic brought a number of highpriced stud sheep, consigned to Canterbury breeders. The shipment consists of two Border Leicester stud rams, valued at one hundred guineas each, one Shropshire ram, eight Shropshire ewes, and two Romney Marsh rams. Wilkes, late house steward at the Wellington Hospital, has been committed for trial on a further charge of embezzling the funds of the institution. DUNEDIN, Oct. 19. Esther Maria Montague has been committed for trial on a charge of robbery in a brothel.
