The deceased came to the colony thirty-four years ago, and had been employed on the Eacecourse Hill run ever since. He was married in 1876, and had reached the age of fifty-six. The respect in which he was held was shown by the large concourse that followed his remains to the Catholic Church, Darfield, where a very impressive service was held. The Eev Father Chastagnon preached the f uneral sermon on "Eemember Death" to an overflowing congregation. Mr Cogan leaves a young family of five daughters and three sons. St Saviour's, Temuka. — A parishioners' meeting was held in the parish room, Temuka, on Tuesday evening. The Eev T. Farley, who presided, explained that it was convened fo-r the purpose of electing a parishioners' churchwarden and five vestrymen to fill the vacancies caused by the retirement of Messrs Aspinall, Leaver, P. P. White, F. Le Cren, G. Davey and A. Nicholas. A personal explanation was made by the incumbent as to the causes leading to the retirement of the gentlemen mentioned. After some discussion, in which regret was expressed at the position, Mr Talbot moved — " That the incumbent's explanation be accepted as satisfactory, and that the parishioners have confidence in him." Seconded by Mr Inwood and carried. Mr Francis Franks was elected parishioners' churchwarden, and Messrs Talbot, D. L- Inwood, G. Langridge, H. J. Gladstone and E. Lee vestrymen. The meeting then terminated.
