There is no locomotive running which, has such a tragic history attached to it as the North British engine which ran the last train over the ill-fated Tay Bridge in December, 1879. After lying at the bottom of the River Tay for three months it was recovered and partly rebuilt, and may now be seen at work on the Glasgow and Dunferinline traffic. A young musician of Hudfion, Michigan, has invented an attachment for the piano which will make that instrument resemble the mandolin in tone. By the application of a lever the piano will pass from .its natural tone to that of the mandolin with aperfe'ct effect. The inventor hopes to invent a piano which will give the effect of a full orchestra of guitars and mandolins.
