BOROUGH COUNCILS.

SYDENHAM. A meeting of the Sydenham Borough Council was held last evening ; present— The Mayor (Mr J. Brown) Councillors Murray, M'Millan, Halley, Muffet, Had-' field, Large, Caygill, Lafferty, Hirtzell, ' Manhire, Bell and Cutler. Mr G. J. ' Smith, M.H.R., wrote, stating that in ' accordance with the Council's . letter of [ Sept. 26 he had arranged to have the ' Sydenham Loan Bill discharged from the Order Paper of the Legislative Council. ; Mr Smith's action was approved, and it 1 was decided to convey to him the thanks ' of the Council for his services in connection' tion with the Bill. The reports of the J Worts and Keserves Committee and of the Finance Committee were adopted. Mr r Jones was appointed caretaker of Sydenl ham Park on the same conditions as those f applying to the previous holder of the j position. A deputation,' representing a f number of ratepayers, attended and asked s for information regarding the borough i finances. After the deputation had been fc heard, they were informed that the a information asked for could be obtained 6 at the Council's office. The deputation v thanked the Council and withdrew. Coune cillor Lafferty moved, according to notice y — " That the Mayor call a public meeting s of ratepayers before each annual election." l- Councillor Manhire seconded the motion, c which, after some discitssion, was carried. The meeting shortly afterwavds closed.
