Messrs G. Watson and J. Little were appointed substitute representatives to the District Synod. The Revs Carr and Dellow received a hearty and unanimous invitation to remain another year; and both accepted, subject to the permission of the next conference. OaxEUTAx Enteetainments. — The Rev Haskett Smith, M.A., the great Oriental traveller, whose entertainments were so popular here a year ago, will be back in Christchurch next week, and he intends giving two or three farewell entertainments on the eve of his departure for America. The name of the great Egyptologist has, by this time, become a household word throughout Australia and New Zealand. It is understood that he has several entirely new subjects, which will be illustrated with exquisitely-coloured limelight views. The title of the entertainment which has been announced for Friday next opens up visions of amusing, interesting and exciting scenes to the imagination, in the countries and districts which will be traversed by that curious and characteristic party of eight old maids and the nervous parson. These realms of romance are nothing more nor less than those ancient lands of Palestine and Egypt. Mr Haskett Smith's' manager has arrived, and is making the necessary arrangements. The Christchurch Amateur Gymnastic Club provides the purely gymnastic feats, while boxing, wrestling and feats of strength fill in the gaps.
