PRINCESS MAUD'S WEDDING CAKE. The wedding cake made for the marriage of Princess Maud of Wales to her cousin, Prince Charles of Denmark, was decorated in a manner entirely new. Pure white, which is the usual colour for a wedding cake, was relieved by the fruits and . flowers being tinted in delicate natural colours. The cake was in three tiers, mounted on a base, and supported by beautifully modelled British lions, alternated with, winged female figure?. A spray of, the roses of England and' Denmark between each figure was moulded in sugar paste. Upon the lower cake were medallions emblazoned with tho arms .of the royal ! bride and . : bridegroom. ..Wreaths and festoons composed of the rose of England, with that of Denmark, the. shamrock' of Ireland, and the thistle of Scotland were interwoven with, sprays of orange blossom 'and joined the jhedalHons. The second tier was entwined with wreaths of fruits and flowers, ; made of sugar paste, and carried out very .daintily in the natural colours. The smaller and top layer of cake was ornamented with a graceful scroll tracing in white, and at opposite sides were shields with the. monograms of the young couple. The upper edge of the cake was finished with a delicate wreath of oraDge blossoms, and the whole surmounted by a basket filled with fruit and held by three littl« figures of dancing Cupids, moulded like the /figures at the base. ••"1 Queen Victoria also sent her grandrci laughter a wedding cake, which is her c ustom at the 'marriage of each one of her { Tandehildren.
