LICENSING COMMITTEES.
. ' — «■ ; — : — - - ' , The quarterly meeting .'of .the 'Selwyn. Licensing Committee was held in the Courthouse, Darfield, on Friday. Mr H. W. ' Bishop, S.M., occupied the chair, and Messrs C. Gamble, Holland, C.Budd, W.. Long, E. Watson, and Dj- Inglis were\ also present. The police reports on all tiie hotels were very satisfactory. The CChairr r man stated that the Porter's Pass/Hotel had been destroyed by fire,* and that hehad granted a temporary permit to use an outhouse till the Committee met, on.con-v dition that plans were sußniitteS .for' a new house. The licensee now wrotej saying he did not intend to re-build, and asking the Committee to endeavour to get a refund of his license s , fee (£5). It was .decidedthat the - license - should lapse^ and the Committee could not refund the license fee. It was also decided to inform the licensees of the Templeton andHororata Hotels that unless better\attention were paid to the lighting of their lanip3, an information would bo laid. Tho granting of a transfer of license for the Bluff .Hotel from J. "Watshaw to H. J. Toppon, concluded the business.
