ASHLEY COUNTY CLUB.
, The annual general meeting of the a"bove club, was held at the Corn Exchange, Eangiqra, last'night. .There was a satis- . factory attendance. Mr G. H. N. .Helmore, president, occupied the chair. Twentytwo new members were elected. The report congratulated the club upon again winning the North Canterbury Cricket Ascociation Cup, although at the 'commencement of the season the services of several prominent members were lost. Mr J. A. Sale secured the highest batting average, and Mr H. 0. Wilson the bowling average, winning the trophies presented by Mr J. B. Wilson, president of the club.. '■ The balance-sheet, although showing a. debit balance was considered, highly satisfactory, seeing that all last season's accounts were met together with old standing liabilities. The balance-sheet showed receipts—subscriptions JE29 9s, sundries £% 7s lid; total £32 16s lid. Expenditurematerial £8 11s 6d, ground expenses .£l7 ss, other accounts .£lB 16s Id;.total £44 12s 7d. Credit balance, £11 19s Sd. The statement of assets and liabilities showed a credit of £21654 d. Thebalance-sheetandre-portwere adopted. Letters of apology for absence were read from Messrs J. B. Wilson and F. J. Cumbeiworth. It was resolved to forward Mr Wilson, President of the Club, a letter of condolence with him in his late bereavement. Officers were elected as follow:—Patron, Mr D. Buddo, M.H.E.; president, Mr E. Wilder; vice-presidents, Dr Volckmann, Messrs E. E. Good and W. P. Chapman; secretary, Mr W. Allen; treasurer, Mr A.- S. .Clarkson; General Committee, Messrs H. C, Bailey, H. Gulliver, G. H. N. Helmore, Johnston, J. Felton, J. Eeynolds, E. Sinclair, Eeeves and the Eev F. P. Fendall; ground committee, T\ -ssrs Helmore, Bailey, Gulliver, Felton si.. Mr Helmore was eleci • i. captain of the first eleven and Mr G. /--iton ceptain of the Thursday team; the (.-lection of a permanent captain fo/ the second eleven was left to the selection committee. The Eev F. P. Ft-ndall and Mr . Clarkson were appointed delegates to the North Canterbury Cricket Association, and were requested to endeavour to arrange for Thursday competitions. It was decided to enter the second eleven i •;• ;he Association Cup. On the -motion of Mt\ Clarkson, it was resolved to alte.- the name of the Club to " The Eangiqra C.-icket Club," andit was made a ' recommemlation to"; the.: Association delegates to* endeavour to" have the name of the Association altered from "North Canterbury" to "Ashley County." Mr J. B. Wilson, in recognition of the interest in cricket shown by him and his services to the club was elected a life number, and was accorded'a most hearty vote of thanks for his gift of trophies. The opening game was fixed for Oct. 3, and the first Thursday game for Oct. B. A vote, of thanks was accorded the outgoing officers, and also to the ladies who provided afternoon tea during the season. It was decided to keep the averages of the Thursday matches. The meeting then terminated.
